THE TRINITY IS
A WAY OF LIFE.
The Trinity can be better understood as a way
of life: the way God lives.
This is how God lives:
- God the Father
lives as "a merciful and gracious God,
slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity" (Ex.
34:6); God the Father demonstrates that he "so
loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes
in him... might have eternal life" (John 3:16). That
is the way the Father lives: He gives all that he is, all that he has
for the well-being of humanity.
- God the Son,
the fulness of life in freedom, takes
on the life of a slave, of a man, so that by his obedience the world
be redeemed. The Lord Jesus lives a life which fully reveals his Father
by doing the works of his Father,
that is, by forgiving his enemies, by doing good to those who do wrong
to him, by blessing those who curse him, by freeing the prisoners, by
healing the sick. Jesus lives a life of
self-sacrificing love (the only true love) so that we
may live.
- God the Holy Spirit
lives in us now, incessantly encouraging
us to do the works of the Father as Christ Jesus showed
them to us, so that, by doing them, we
may be united in the live of the Triune God.
The life of the Triune God is the model for all
human life, life which allows us to be inserted in the
Trinity, to be in God Himself.
Saint Paul tells us how we can
live the life of the Trinity: "Brothers...
mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live
in peace" (2 Corinthians 13:11).
A world where divisions
and wars are the norm, is a world which rejects the life of the Holy
Trinity.
Today our Triune God calls us into his life.
