UNITY VERSUS ISOLATIONISM.
One of the most devastating experiences a human being can undergo is
that of isolationism, of being isolated from the rest of humanity, of
being left out.
Today's Scriptures reveal that the Most Holy Trinity is the perfect
model of unity, the most effective way to end isolationism, the way
which must be followed by the human race.
Today the Lord Jesus fully reveals the Trinity: The unity of Father,
Son and Holy Spirit. Today the Lord Jesus invites us to be part of that
unity: "Baptize them in the name
of the Father and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit"
(Matthew. 28:19).
Our world rejects unity, promotes isolationism.
In a world where the powerful destroys the weak, where the powerful
appropriates for himself the wealth which belongs to humanity, where
the powerful oppressor pretends to give the appearance of righteousness,
it is inevitable that those powerful individuals (or nations) would
try to isolate themselves from the suffering of the rest of the world.
Isolation is, therefore, a means to avoid
that the truth be openly revealed, a means to distance oneself from
the truth. The one who resorts to isolationism builds
a wall to prevent access to the truth. The oppressor isolates himself
from his crimes in order to pretend that the oppression he generates
does not exist. By covering up the horrors of oppression, the world
oppressor has free rein, so he believes, to continue with impunity oppressing
his fellow human beings.
In a world such as the one described above, it becomes almost impossible
for human beings to live in unity, because the powerful oppressor will
find it extremely undesirable to relate to his fellow human beings as
equals.
The Most Holy Trinity is a solution, not a problem.
Those who try to reduce the Trinity to a strictly theological or intellectual
proposition, see it as a problem, a problem almost insoluble. But the
Trinity is not something to be explained theologically or intellectually,
it is rather the presence of God truly living in every human being.
For instance, a family whose members remain united, is a witness of
God's life. Similarly, a world where all human beings are united, is
a witness of God's life.
How does the Trinity live in every human being?
Those who promote peace, justice, compasion, understanding, respect,
unity and equality demonstrate that the Trinitarian God is in them for
they are witnesses of God's life before the eyes of humanity; they are
recipients of the Love of the Father, a love which is revealed by the
Lord Jesus, a love which is present in each human being today through
the Holy Spirit living in us.
Embracing the Trinity makes us sharers of God's unity and life for ever,
as Our Lord Jesus Christ tells us at the closing of Matthew's gospel:
"Behold, I am with you always, until
de end of the age" (Mat. 28:20).
By embracing the Trinity we overcome the devastating isolationism that
is destroying our world; by embracing the Trinity we are able to become
one with God and with our fellow human beings.
