DEEDS,
NOT WORDS.
NINETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME.
June 1, 2008.
(First reading: Deuteronomy 11:18, 26-28)
(Second reading: Romans 3:21-25, 28)
(Gospel: Matthew 7:21-27)
DEEDS, NOT WORDS.
In the gospel Jesus identifies
the evildoers as those who say "Lord,
Lord" but "fail to do the will of his Father in heaven"
(Matthew 7:21, 23).
These are the evildoers:
- Those who say they love peace without
justice.
- Those who say they want freedom but
oppress others.
- Those who say wealth should be for all,
but hoard the wealth of the world for themselves.
- Those who say the benefits of technology
should be for peaceful uses but they use it for war.
- Those who say that they hold public
office to serve others, but only serve themselves or their interest
group.
- Those who call themselves righteous,
but lie to keep themselves in power.
- Those who say that they are for life,
but support abortion.
- Those who say that all humans are created equal but take pride in
their alleged "superiority" over others.
Thus, all they say are words,
only words; their lips only cry out "Lord,
Lord" while
completely ignoring "the will of the Father in heaven";
their hearts are far from Jesus because they fail to act on what the
Lord Jesus preaches: Justice, peace, truth, respect, unity, equality.
These evildoers "build
their nations on sand" (Matthew 7:26),
nations which will "collapse and will
be completely ruined" (Matthew 7:27) by the "storms"
coming from the justice, righteousness and mercy of the Lord (Romans
3:21); and from people who take the will of the Father into their hearts
and souls (Deuteronomy 11:18).
Beware, words will not be heard unless
they are accompanied by deeds based on the will of the Father.
